Gabriel Ruiz-Bernal is a very active pianist in the Washington metropolitan area as soloist and collaborative piano.  Currently working with baritone José Sacín on the recording project of the Art Songs of Francesco Paolo Tosti, which are being presented in concert at this time.  If you are interested in inviting us for a concert, please contact us. 

 

As a jazz pianist, he recently accompanied Grammy Award winner Patti Austin, and he is also involved in composing, performing and producing music for projects involving media, documentaries and short films.

 

Education:

· Doctor of Philosophy “Sobresaliente Cum Laude” Department of Music and Theory of the Arts. Universidad Hispalense de Sevilla, Spain.

· Masters Degree: Piano Performance.  Major: Classical Piano. Minor: Jazz Piano.  Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Virginia.

· Bachelor Degree (triple major: Piano, Music Theory, French Horn) and Diploma of Professor with First Prize: Conservatory Superior de Málaga.

· Additional studies at Yale University.

· Workshops in film scoring at New York University.

 

On his 15th year as faculty member of the Levine School of Music in Washington, D.C., he has received the grade of “Senior Faculty”.  His teaching studio is located at the new Music Center at Strathmore.  Gabriel is also one of the staff organists at St. Matthew’s Cathedral and was the pianist of Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Washington, performing in front of 46,000 people plus live television broadcasting.
